Stitched images: Combining multiple photographic images with overlapping fields of view to produce a panorama or a high-resolution image
– Advantages: Inexpensive; many available software tools; can convey more information than single photos
– Disadvantages: Distortion and perspective issues; no geometry; no measurement; some formats are proprietaryExamples:
– Panorama | Golden Gate Bridge
– 360-degree product view with B&H PhotoReflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI): Using a fixed camera position, takes multiple images illuminated from different known light positions and are synthesized into a single RTI image
Can be relatively inexpensive, done with a camera and a tripod (watch video example below)
Examples:
Egyptian scarab, Eton College Myers Collection

Software available through link above, collect and manage data about digital representation processes (capture setup, location, stakeholders, documents, image sequence capture, processing, preparation of data for archive, etc.)Things to consider: What is necessary for your organization? What are the goals of the museum and how do these tools align with the values and interests of the organization? Is the organization able to invest time and even resources into projects like this?
